This exciting structure comprises a 140m long steel deck supported by 70mm diameter spiral strand stay cables connected to a 42m high steel mast. Steel was key to the success of the very short programme (concept to completion in 15 months), and the formal clarity and final surface finish. Opened in June 2003 for the inaugural ‘Great West Wales Triathlon’, this bridge has become a popular icon for the region and a destination in its own right as well as an essential link between the Port Tawe Innovation Village and the City Centre.
